Hi there! It's Rachel Greig here today sharing an art journal page using the large Sunshine Stencil. One of the things I also love to do with stencils is play around with gel printing to see what effects can be achieved with just the one stencil. I created a video of my experiments which you will see below. First, let's look at the art journal page:
This spread was created in my Dina Wakley Media journal. If you've not seen this journal before, it has different surfaces throughout the journal which make it an interesting feature as you flip through the pages. I'm working on a canvas material on the left and watercolour paper on the right.
I adhered two tags to the canvas side using Multi Medium. The tags were created by sponging Distress Inks and then stamping the images over the top with Archival Jet Black ink. I created custom colours of satin seam binding ribbon by colouring it with Distress Stains.
For the watercolour page I started by scraping some Gesso over the page before adhering some old books page strips randomly over the page. Next I scraped some Cut Grass Dylusions paint in a few areas and let dry before adhering some more book pages and sheet music strips. To match the colours of the tags, I placed the Large Sunshine stencil over the page and spritzed with Dylusions Tangerine Dream Shimmer Spray. It is a richly coloured spray with lots of shimmer! You can see where the shimmer has resisted the gesso a little bit which I think gives an interesting effect as it creates different shade of colour with the shimmer spray. To finish off, I wrote in between the sun rays with a black pen.
I also wanted to test the stencil with gel printing to see what different effects you could get by using different colours and layers of paint. It was fun to play and create these prints! You can watch the video here:
