Who doesn't love something exciting arriving in the mail? Forget the bills and those boring white window envelopes, what about those handwritten letters or birthday cards? Let's go one step further... what about fun decorated envelopes? It's no secret that I love mail, and especially DECORATED mail! I love it when I pull something out of the letter box and even before I open the envelope I have a smile on my face :) That's what mail art does! Brings a smile to everyone, even the postie would get a kick out of it.
Creative Team member Sarah Schwerin has been playing around with our stamps to have a dabble in mail art. Here's what she's created:
I tell you what - if these don't grab your attention, then I don't know what will! Imagine these in your mail box!!! You wouldn't miss it for the world!!
Here's some notes from Sarah:
I've never tried mail art before, so I thought I'd start out with something simple! So I stuck to plain black stamping on some cool red envelopes that I got from K-mart. I went back to basics with my stamping, and used masking and collage stamping techniques to create my envelopes!
I used a post-it note as a mask on one of the envelopes for the address section. I used a scalloped edge punch on the bottom edge, and traced around the post-it before stamping around it with the rubber stamps.
It was lots of fun to do, and I think the colour combo makes quite a striking piece of mail art! They looked great once the addresses and postage stamps had been added. I can't wait to try something more adventurous next time! Watch this space!
Here's what's on the back:
So fun Sarah!!!!! (is that enough exclamation marks?????????) I can imagine those who received these in the mail would have LOVED it!
