Hello! Autumn Clark with you today to share a couple of encouragement cards using the new Butterflies Small Stencil. I’ve enjoyed using different mediums with these stencils to create unique layering effects.
Instructions:
To start, I dipped a watercolor panel in a variety of Distress Inks to create a grungy background.
Next I used the open stencil and sponged a mix of Vintage Photo and Iced Spruce Distress Oxides.
Then I spritzed the sponged butterfly and let the inks bleed down the page.
I lined up the image and taped the stencil down, then added the detail stencil back in place. I applied modeling paste through the stencil. As the paste dries, it will lift some of the sponged ink and tint the paste.
I added a few strips of tissue tape to frame my sentiment from the Simple Sayings Vol 2 Stamp Set, which I stamped in Vintage Photo Distress Ink onto scrap inky paper. I stamped circles from the Grunge Marks Rubber Stamp Set and the Butterfly Eclectic Stamp in Watering Can Archival Ink randomly along the background.
Supplies Used:
Darkroom Door Butterflies Small Stencil
Darkroom Door Butterfly Eclectic Stamp
Darkroom Door Grunge Marks Rubber Stamp Set
Darkroom Door Simple Sayings Vol 2 Stamp Set
Distress Inks: Pumice Stone, Frayed Burlap
Distress Oxides: Vintage Photo, Iced Spruce
Liquitex Light Modeling Paste
Tissue Tape
Archival Ink: Watering Can
For the second card I used followed the same techniques with light and springy colors.
Instructions:
I dipped a watercolor panel in a variety of Distress Inks to create a light watercolor background.
I sponged Evergreen Bough Distress Oxide through the open stencil.
Next, I lined up the image and taped the stencil down, then added the detail stencil back in place. I applied modeling paste through the stencil. When the paste was dry, I sponged it with Antique Linen Distress Oxide for contrast.
I stamped the Butterfly Eclectic Stamp at the top of my panel, then used the second detail butterfly from the small stencil set to do a monoprint. To do this, I applied Evergreen Bough Distress Ink directly to the stencil and spritzed it with water, then used it as a stamp. This gave me three different butterfly images to fill my card.
I added a few strips of tissue tape to frame my sentiment from the Simple Sayings Vol 2 Stamp Set, which I stamped in in Evergreen Bough Distress Ink onto scrap inky paper.
