Harlequin Art

Darkroom Door - Monday, March 24, 2014
Goodly Morning folks, Hels here today with a card I have made using the brand new and deliciously gorgeous Harlequin Texture Stamp.

I started out sorting out through all my Darkroom Door stamps to see what else I could use with this versatile Texture Stamp and quickly figured that my Wooden Frame stamp was a perfect fit for the Harlequin. From there the card design kind of mushroomed.

I started out by stamping the Wooden Frame twice onto cream card using Potting Soil Archival Ink. For the base frame, I cut out the whole thing and then lightly blended Antique Linen Distress Ink all over it.

The second image was cut out around the edges and also inside too, so I was just left with the frame which I could then 3d onto the base. I used Vintage Photo and Walnut Stain to colour both frames and then set about stamping the Harlequin into the centre of the base frame. I used a light covering of Frayed Burlap Distress Ink to stamp the harlequin and then lightly misted with water to soften the image a bit. Once dried, I used the sprig from Full Bloom Vol 2 along with Hyacinth and Fern Green Archival’s, stamping just off the edge of the base frame. I then stamped several of the small open flower image from the same stamp set, colouring with Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink, shaping the petals to give them some dimension and then popping a little pearl into the centres.

I then stamped 3 small butterflies from Wings stamp set, colouring with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink and a waterbrush for added shading. I made a little card mat for the frame to sit on, colouring the same Distress Inks as the base frame and stamping the Harlequin in Stormy Sky. I wanted to add some wordage but didn’t want to overpower the background so I cut up a few words from a Venetian Word Strip, coloured them with Antique Linen Distress Ink and then edged with a black Sharpie Marker, so the words pop from the background. A smidge of jute twine to add a little more decoration and the card was finished.

I am loving this new Texture Stamp, it has the perfect amount of shabbiness designed in it and is really easy to use for repeat stamping too. It also works perfectly with loads of the Darkroom Door stamps in the collections . . . so much so I cannot wait to try it out with different sets!

Thanks for looking! TTFN
