Alcohol Ink Splatter cards

Darkroom Door - Tuesday, July 19, 2011

Sarah Schwerin has created a set of colourful cards using a variety of Darkroom Door rubber stamps with the Alcohol Ink splatter technique! Check these out:

Details from Sarah:

I created this set of 4 cards for a class that I taught recently at Pages2Scrap.

To create the background for these cards I used Tim Holtz's Alcohol Ink splatter technique, which involves alcohol inks, gloss cardstock, and compressed air in a can. So much fun to do!

I chose 5 colours from the "Brights" range of Ranger Alcohol inks - Purple Twilight, Citrus, Sunset Orange, Sunshine Yellow, and Watermelon. I stamped the Darkroom Door images onto the background with Jet Black Archival Ink.

My favourite part was using the Flourish Background and Splatter Background stamps over one another - they look so great together! See here:

I added a bit of ribbon, and I stamped a few of the squares from the Artist set onto plain white gloss cardstock with black ink, cut them out, and mounted them to two of the card fronts. The bases are black bazzill cardstock.

4 really simple cards with maximum impact! Perfect for the arty ones in your life!

Darkroom Door stamps used:
* Splatter background stamp
* Flourish Background stamp
* Artist stamp set
* Butterflies stamp set

Teresa Abajo, our new Creative Team member, has been creating up a storm using the new Baby Word Block stamp! Check out these little cuties...

Stamps used:
Baby Word Block

The letters on the banner have come from the Word Block stamp, Teresa has simply stamped the words again, then cut out the letters she needed for the banner. Fab idea!!

You can see more photos of these cards on Teresa's blog here.

Love Letters Photochip Cards

Darkroom Door - Monday, July 04, 2011

Creative Team member Sarah Schwerin has created a beautiful set of cards using the Love Letters Photochips and Wordstrips to share with us:

Darkroom Door materials used:
* Love Letters Photochips
* Love Letters Wordstrips
* French Script Background Stamp
* Fired Brick Distress Ink

Details from Sarah:

I used 2 photochips at their original size, and with 2 of them I silhouetted the couple for a different look. I coated them all in versamark ink, and then embossed with clear embossing powder - to give them an extra glossy finish. I used regular embossing powder, but f you used UTEE you could crack it once it was dry and create a more aged look.

I cut words from the Wordstrips and inked around the edges using Fired Brick Distress inks. The words were mounted to the front of my cards using double sided foam mounting tape.

To make the backgrounds of my cards, I stamped the French Script background stamp using Fired Brick Distress Ink onto some Bo Bunny Journal cardstock.

The paper roses are by Kaisercraft.

These cards would be perfect for a wedding, engagement, anniversary, or even Valentines Day!

These are so beautiful Sarah! Thank you so much for sharing these with us! Very inspiring!!!

Hope you are all having a wonderful Monday!

Friday wrap up!

Darkroom Door - Friday, July 01, 2011

Happy Friday! I hope you are all looking forward to a fun weekend! I'm heading off for a crafty weekend with some friends... I'm really looking forward to some downtime, just to relax, chat, do some sewing and cardmaking!

Michelle has been busy creating a couple of ATC's with some of the new stamps. Check out this ATC using the 1920's chic stamp set:

She's also used the Postcards Background stamp... such a popular stamp this one, it just gives a really nice random vintage feel to any project!

Another fun tid bit for this Friday... I have drawn the winner from last week's post announcing Teresa as our new Cretaive Team member!

The winner is Gail Smith! Congratulations!

Gail, please email us (info @ with your mailing address and the Background Stamp of your choice and we'll get it shipped out to you!

And before we head off... here's another fun ATC by Michelle:

She's stamped the bird from the Love Birds stamp set, then masked the bird and stamped the Journey Word Block stamp over the top to create the background. After that, Michelle has doodled around the bird, edges and various other spots to give it a real whimsical feel! Love it!!

I have lots more projects to share with you next week, including a new Guest Artist! Until then, hope you all have a inky weekend!!

Beautiful cards and winners!

Darkroom Door - Tuesday, May 24, 2011

We received some beautiful thank you and hello cards with some recent ATC swaps... check these out:

Created by Robyn Wood using the Flourish Background and the Fuschia stamp from Art De Fleur Vol 1. Very pretty! The Flourish Background is embossed too, so in real life it has a beautiful shiny raised finish. Thanks so much Robyn!

This card is from Sandra De Marchi. You can't really see from the picture, but this card has a real metallic sheen over the image - it looks stunning! Sandra has used the Little Door Photo Stamp and various Wordstrips. Thanks Sandra!!

This card is from Vicky Fernando. Love how she has sponged the Eiffel Tower stamp with different coloured inks to show off the different elements in the stamp! She's also used a Prague Vol 1 wordstrip and some Craft Queen ribbons and Bakers Twine too! Thanks Vicky!

We also have some winners from last weeks Leaves post! Congrats to the following ladies:

These are gorgeous!!! Our leaves are just unfurling here, and the ornamental trees are in full flower. It's a glorious time of year. Isn't it just amazing what beauty trees bring, at any time of year!
These stamps really capture some of that magic and these artists have brought those stamps to life. Marvellous!

Leaves stamp set ideas!

Darkroom Door - Friday, May 20, 2011

Today we want to share some projects with you using the Leaves stamp set!

This set has been on my 'wish-list' for a very long time, but for various reasons we weren't able to release it until now. I'd been collecting leaves from my garden and our neighbourhood to create this stamp set, so there's lots of different varieties in there! I've also made little versions of some of them too - great for inchies, tags and ATC's!

Godelieve is our main feature artist today, she has created fabulous projects with this stamp set!

Details from Godelieve:

All stamping was done with Archival Ink #Coffee.  I colored the Tree Line image with Distress Ink and pencils.  The bird is from the Love Birds set.
Background is sponged with Distress Ink, I added more color to the leaves with pencils.
Twine, mini staples and a sentiment from the Simply Circles set are the finishing touches.

Isn't it fantastic! Godelieve has created two cards using similar colouring techniques. Here's the first one:

Details from Godelieve:

Double stamping of the leaves, over stamped with Background stamps Criss Cross and Weathered Stripes using Distress Inks.
The quotes are from Wilderness Vol 1 and Full Bloom Vol 2, stamped with Archival Ink #Coffee.

Here's the second one:

It's autumn right now here in the southern hemisphere, so these leaves are falling everywhere right now! Beautiful colours!!

Godelieve's also created a gift tag:

Isn't that clever!! Here's some info from Godelieve:

A stamped leaf, cut out, used as a gift label to attach to a wine bottle.
Celebrate from the All Occasions set was stamped with Archival Ink #Coffee.

What a great idea!

I've also had fun with this set... here's a card I created by embossing the leaves then going over the top with Distress Stains.

The sentiment is from the Simply Circles stamp set, adhered with foam adhesive.

So there you go - a few idea on how to use the Leaves in your cards and other projects!!

I'd like to say a HUGE thankyou to our Creative Team for all their inspiration and projects that they've shared with us over the past few weeks!! It's always such a pleasure to show off their creativity - we are so lucky to have such a great team! I'm sure you have all enjoyed their projects as much as I have!

I'm sure they'd love to read some comments here too, so feel free to leave some love for them ;) I'll giveaway a prize to one lucky commentor. I'll draw a winner by Monday.

To all our blog readers - hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
