Short Rectangle Set Small Stencil Ideas

Darkroom Door - Saturday, September 07, 2019

Hi there! Today we are sharing lots of different ways to use the new Short Rectangle Stencil Set! This stencil set consists of a rectangle shape stencil with the matching solid shape - which is shorter than our original Rectangle Set Stencil.

This shorter version is a great size for US size card bases and for creating a more art gallery style format on your cards where you can have the same border on the top and left and right sides, but having a larger area at the bottom which is often how many photographs or artwork pieces are framed.

There’s also lots of other ways to use this stencil and we’d like to share a few ideas from Godelieve Tijskens!

For these cards, Godelieve has used the Short Rectangle Stencil to create a frame for the Beautiful Blooms stamps, by tracing around the stencil and drawing a frame. It looks wonderful! You can read the full tutorial here.

For this card Godelieve has used the Short Rectangle Set Stencil to create a patchwork background by sponging different Distress Oxide Inks through the stencil until the background was covered. It’s a great way to add different colours to create a base for your card. To read more about this card, visit Godelieve’s blog here.

This is another example of creating a patchwork background, but this time it’s in an art journal! Godelieve has used the Dina Wakley Media journal and sponged different coloured inks to cover the entire background. Then she has used the stencil to mask the area and then stamp and stencil inside using other Darkroom Door stamps.

It’s a great way to create a patchwork art journal page! Read more on Godelieve's blog here.
