Hi there! It's Rachel Greig here today sharing an art journal page using rubber stamps, inks, paint, stencils, texture paste, papers and collage!
This page, like many of my art journal pages, started out as an excess page where I would wipe excess paint onto the page from other art projects. Over time, it had a base layer of lilac and light blue paint colours. The Dina Wakley spiral stencil was also stencilled to use up excess purple paint.
One day while working on another art journal page using black India Ink, I accidentally spilled the India Ink all over my art table! Rather than just wiping the ink up, I picked up a butterfly mask and dipped it onto the ink and then pressed it onto the right hand side of the page. I repeated this down the page, creating a line of random inky butterflies.
Each time I add something to the page, I just leave the journal open on my table to dry and come back to it later. After I did the butterflies, this page remained like this for several weeks while I worked on other projects. I have lots of random pages in my art journal just waiting to be worked on again. I love letting the ideas form over time, allowing layers to be created slowly as time or inspiration permits.
The rest of the page was then completed in one sitting. I stamped the Gazette Background Stamp over the page using Archival Jet Black ink. The French Script Texture Stamp was stamped using Cornflower Blue Archival Ink. The Swirls Background Stamp was stamped using Deep Purple Archival ink.
Three strips of book pages were torn and adhered to the page using Multi Medium. I drew a line of Distress Crayon around the book edges and rubbed it with my finger to blend it into the page. I love how the crayons look! I stencilled over the book pages using Distress Inks and Tim Holtz stencils. I also sponged around the edge of the entire page using the same Distress Inks with an ink blending tool.
A strip of Japanese paper was added under one of the book pages, adhered with Multi Medium. The quote from Wilderness Vol 1 Rubber Stamps was stamped onto a small piece of card that already had ink colour on it. Tore the edges and adhered to the page. Distress Crayon was used around the edges and blended in, just like the book pages.
The large flower from the Carved Flowers Stamp Set was stamped using Archival Jet Black ink. To finish off, I used a small Tim Holtz stencil and Ranger Texture Paste to add some texture to three areas of the page. The texture paste soaked in some of the inks underneath and dried with a coloured tint.
I love how this page came together in the end! Lots of layers and detail.
