Grunge Marks Gel Printing

Darkroom Door - Saturday, June 24, 2017

Hi there, it's Rachel here today! Recently I attended the Gel Press Academy in the United States to learn all about Gel Press plates and how to create amazing gel prints! I have been doing gelatine printing for a while now, as it's a process that works really well with rubber stamps. I brought along some of our latest stamps to the class to try them out with some of the gel plates. I particularly loved using the Grunge Marks stamps! There are so many different marks in this set, so it made some interesting patterns and effects with the gel printing.

Here's a look at what you can create using the 6x6 round gel plate:

I also had fun with the 6x6 square plate:

Gel Press also sell shaped plates, this little hexagon was fun to use:

I hope this inspires you to have a go at gel printing with the Grunge Marks stamps!

3 ways with Roses Photo Stamp

Darkroom Door - Tuesday, June 06, 2017

Hi, it's Heather Telford here today, happy to be back on the Darkroom Door blog with three ways to work with the lovely Roses Photo Stamp. The techniques are not dramatically different but each has it's own look and feel once completed.

Instructions:
1. Begin with a piece of hot pressed watercolour paper a little larger than the Roses stamp. Using a stamp positioning tool ink the Roses stamp in Victorian Velvet distress stain and stamp it on hot pressed watercolour paper.
2. Wipe off the stamp and ink only the centre of the roses with Aged Mahogany distress stain and stamp over the still damp roses.
3. Spritz the panel if you want more blending. Dab the panel with paper towel if it is too wet.
4. Once panel is dry stamp sentiment from Bright Blossoms Vol 1 Stamp Set on panel in black pigment ink. Emboss in clear powder.
5. Trim panel and mat panel in black cardstock, add a b&w gingham ribbon and attach to white card base.
6. Add some ebony black nuvo crystal drops.

4. Trim panel and wrap burgandy ribbon around.
5. Stamp sentiment from Bright Blossoms Vol 1Stamp Set  in Crimson Red versafine ink on a small rectangle of watercolour paper. Swipe inkpad round edges of panel then emboss edges and sentiment in clear powder.

Bright Mini Jar Eclectic Stamp Cards

Darkroom Door - Friday, June 02, 2017
Hi, it’s Anneke de Clerck here. Today I have two cards to share that I’ve made with the new Mini Jar Eclectic Stamp. This stamp has the perfect size to use on cards but I’m planning to use the stamp in combination with the big jar in my art journal as well.

Instructions
1. Paint stripes using pink, magenta and lime paint. Don’t clean your brush before moving to the next color, this will make the colors blend nicely.
2. Load the Checkered Background Stamp with Fluorescent Magenta paint using a brayer. Make a print on white paper. Stamp the Mini Jar on top with Archival Ink Jet Black and cut out. Stamp the lid again on white paper and cut out.
3. Stamp a flower from the Carved Flower set twice with Fluorescent Magenta and three times with Lawn Fawn Ink Minty Fresh. Cut out.
4. Cut stems and leaves out of white paper, paint with Distress Ink Cracked Pistachio and Iced Spruce.
5. Assemble flowers and jar as shown. Use 3D foam to attach the flowers. Make a split into the lid, slide leaves and stems into it.
6. Stamp text with Archival Ink Jet Black.
7. Create shadow by scribbling with a black Scribble Stick, go over it with a water brush.
8. Add white details with a Posca pen and decorate the jar with small fuchsia paper strips.
